Simple or Stripped?
The story: They agreed to keep things simple. She sent a one-slide PDF — 1.5KB. He replied: just one slide? She said simple, right? He said no — oversimplified. He meant clear and focused. She meant minimal and brief. The agreement felt obvious. The output made the gap visible immediately.
What it means for organisations: "Simple" is one of the most subjective standards a team can set. It lives at the intersection of clarity, brevity, and completeness — and each person weights those differently. When simplicity becomes a design principle or communication standard without being defined, teams produce work that satisfies their own version and surprises everyone else's.
